Single-Vehicle Accident Results in Fire, Death

May 22, 2015- Chesterfield, VA

On Friday afternoon, one person was killed in a single-vehicle car fire. According to NBC12, the vehicle was traveling south in the 8700 block of Courthouse Road when it struck a tree and then caught on fire.

Chesterfield Fire-EMS and Police are unsure whether the fatal accident was caused by a medical emergency, or whether the driver died as a result of the smoke and flames. However, authorities have stated that the crash didn’t appear suspicious, but rather a tragic accident.

According to one official, it’s not usual to have a car burst into flames due to safety features in cars today.

Generally, car fires can be caused by ruptured or damaged fuel lines, punctured fuel tanks, excessive oil leaks, electrical shortages, and/or hot exhaust components. Most car fires are connected to fuel leakage caused by either hot components inside the engine compartment or collision-related structural damage.

If wiring shortages or fuel leaks occur as a result of vehicle defects and ignite a car fire, automotive manufacturers may be held liable for personal injury compensation.
