Mother Runs To Raise Awareness About Drunk Driving

Finish Line- small

CBS 6 News reports that after two years and several surgeries, a mother injured by a drunk driver is training to run in a “Walk like MADD” event.

On October 3, 2014, Lisa Black was struck head-on by a drunk driver on Route 15. Ms. Black was trapped inside her car. She remembers a first responder saying “I don’t think we have enough time to get her to the hospital.”  Ms. Black had broken both of her legs, her neck, and hand. She spent weeks in the hospital, had several surgeries, and endured what seemed like endless physical therapy. The drunk driver was not injured in the crash.

While in recovery she promised to educate others about the dangers of drunk driving and began working with Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD). Ms. Black’s goal today is to prevent this from happening to someone else. To raise awareness, Ms. Black and her family participate in the annual “Walk like MADD”. Last year Ms. Black walked the annual event, this year she is training to run. We here at ReidGoodwin wish Ms. Black the best as she continues on her path to recovery.
