Chesterfield Police are seeking the public’s help to find the driver and passenger in a violent hit and run case at the Wawa on Cogbill and Iron Bridge Road. The accident occurred during the early morning hours of Saturday, November 8, 2014.
Video surveillance shows a late-model Jeep Cherokee pull out from its parking spot and “violently strike” parked vehicles while circling the store. According to police, one of the parked vehicles was struck so hard that it was propelled approximately 5 feet from its original location.
The driver of the jeep is described as a black male in his late 20s. He was approximately 6 feet tall and 200 pounds. He had a mustache and tall, thick hair on top of his head with shorter hair on the sides. The passenger is being reported as 6 feet tall with a thin build, mustache and goatee.
Both the driver and the passenger are facing felony charges related to the hit and run due to the amount of damage caused to the parked vehicles. In Virginia, hit-and-run drivers who cause injury, death, or more than $1,000 in property damages may face up to 10 years in prison. A passenger in a hit-and-run vehicle who does not report this type of accident may also face up to 5 years in prison.
Drivers involved in an accident are required by law to stop their vehicles as close as possible to the scene of the accident as soon as reasonably possible. All parties must then report any injures, names of those involved, addresses of those involved, all drivers’ license and vehicle registration numbers to state or local law enforcement.
