Data released by the Department of Motor Vehicles and the Virginia Highway Safety Office shows that while car-related fatalities in the Commonwealth totaled 700 in 2014, as of August 19, 2015, Virginia has already reached 438 car-related fatalities.
NBC 12 reports that state-wide, sport utility vehicle fatalities have increased 117%; teen driver fatalities have increased 20%; and fatalities among drivers 65 and up have increased 7%.
