From our team at ReidGoodwin, we want to wish you and your family a very Happy New Year. We hope you have a fun evening celebrating the end of 2018 and the beginning of a brand-new year! We also hope you stay safe by planning your evening ahead and taking these tips into consideration:
- Don’t Drink And Drive: New Year’s is a holiday widely known for drinking alcohol. If you’re going to drink, never get behind the wheel. You could injure yourself, your passengers, and other drivers. Additionally, police officers will be looking for drunk drivers out on the road and DUI’s will stay on your record.
- Stay Off The Roads: If you can avoid it, you should stay off the roads altogether. Even if you haven’t been drinking, there might be drunk drivers out there.
- Have A Designated Driver: If you’re going to be on the road, plan to have a designated driver with you that won’t be drinking. Bring spare cash as well so you can call a taxi or Uber as a backup plan.
- Book A Hotel: If you’re celebrating somewhat far away from home, book a hotel. The least amount of time you have to be on the road this night, the better.
- Stay Hydrated: Keep drinking water throughout the night to avoid dehydration. Also, make sure you have a full meal before going out.
- Have A Fully-Charged Phone: Make sure to charge your phone and bring a spare charger. You might need a phone if you ever need help, a ride home, or if you need to contact a friend.
- Be Aware Of Your Surroundings: If you’re going to be around a crowd of people that you don’t know, make sure to be cautious of everyone around you and don’t leave your drink unattended. If you have a purse, keep it close to you or someone you trust.
- Stay Close To Your Friends: When you’re out, stay close with the people you came with, so that someone always knows exactly where you are.
- Tell Someone Else Where You Will Be: Tell someone you know (such as a family member) what your plans are. Let him or her know where you’re going, who you’re with, and how to reach you.
- Handle Flammables With Care: Many New Year’s celebrations will have fireworks and sparklers around. However, these can be very dangerous and cause injuries as well as fires. Handle them with extreme care if you know how to use them or stay away from them completely.
- Open Champagne Bottles The Right Way: If
you’re going to open a champagne bottle, make sure you know the proper way to do it. Don’t point the bottle at anyone as the cork can shoot out and make sure to keep your thumb on the cork until it’s time to carefully twist it out.
New Year’s Eve is a fun holiday to go out and celebrate, but if you don’t take some precautions, your night can quickly be turned upside down. By following these friendly tips, you can have a great time all the while ensuring that you will be safe.
We look forward to hearing from you in 2019! Happy New Year’s Eve!
